South African university students go to a winter camp in China to learn Chinese and experience the culture.
Big brother, what is a “winter camp”? Is it for playing in the snow?
Not necessarily playing in the snow. A winter camp means going somewhere during the holiday to learn and experience things. For example, eleven university students from South Africa went to China to join the “Chinese Bridge” winter camp.
What did they do in China?
They took classes at Xiamen University and also did handicrafts like dough figurines. They learned tea culture and practiced the “Five-Step Fist,” learning Chinese while having fun.
Wow! I want to learn while playing too!
Later they went to Beijing to see Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, and the Great Wall. They felt that China has a long and interesting history.
Were they scared? It’s such a faraway place.
Some said everything was well organized and very safe, so they want to keep learning Chinese and even hope to return to China to study in the future.
